The bustling town of Denia is close by offering shopping, bars, restaurants and nightlife. Denia is situated in a natural port on the slopes of the hill Montgo, which is crowned by a very ancient castle. It is full of festivities, throughout the year. The popular festival called "Fallas" is celebrated each March. Huge papier-mache statues (the fallas) are set up throughout the town, and then set ablaze. July brings the popular "Bulls at the Sea". The highlight of this week long festival is watching bulls run down the main street Marques de Campo, only to be chased into the Mediterranean sea by those daring enough to enter a makeshift bull ring with them. From Denia you can take a two hour ferry crossing to the Balearic islands of Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera.
Just up the coast is Valencia, a beautiful city with many attractions and the third largest city in Spain. You can take a train directly into the centre.
